FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE: The Academic MTSS Interventionist, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) position provides a multi-tier system of instruction, assessment, and intervention designed to meet the achievement, behavioral, and social-emotional learning needs of all students. Support is provided to students with the early identification and intervention to ensure success through integrated behavioral, social-emotional learning/academic research-based interventions. The Academic MTSS Interventionists should spend 60-80% of their time with students and 20-40% of their time coordinating with school and district staff. An Academic MTSS Interventionist is an education professional who provides direct literacy or math instruction to students in the regular education environment who are identified as off track for meeting grade-level standards in either ELA or Math. The Academic Interventionist is expected to provide remedial Math and ELA instruction to students in a small group setting as well as in the regular classroom. 

The Academic MTSS Interventionist will work with teachers and other appropriate school personnel to analyze data to identify students who need interventions as part of a multi-tiered system of support. The interventionist will work with teachers, students, and parents to problem solve and develop intervention plans to address specific academic areas of need. The interventionist may also collaborate with the building level Instructional Coach and Principal as needed to meet the needs of students.

 

MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates and facilitates the implementation of academic interventions aligned to the standard treatment protocol for students in need of support towards meeting course standards.
  2. Collaborates with school staff, using data to identify students for supplemental or intensive intervention support.
  3. Delivers research-based strategies and techniques to support students individually or in small groups.
  4. Delivers Math and ELA instruction to students individually or in small groups. 
  5. Builds capacity by assisting teachers and instructional staff in addressing student learning using the MTSS framework; provides guidance on strategies, tools, and techniques to effectively teach all students.
  6. Develops, documents, and maintains ongoing intervention plans in the intervention management system.
  7. Maintains progress monitoring data on how students are responding to intervention plans and make adjustments as needed.
  8. Communicates with families regarding student progress and provide strategies families can use at home.
  9. Participates in relevant team and student meetings.
  10. Monitors the overall effectiveness of each academic intervention, collaborating with school leaders to address implementation fidelity and other barriers to success.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal or designee

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Knowledge, Skills & abilities

  • Strong knowledge and experience with the MTSS framework
  • Knowledge of current research on academic interventions
  • Ability to analyze data and use data to drive decision-making
  • Knowledge of the “whole child” philosophy of service delivery and problem-solving
  • Knowledge and appreciation of diversity by recognizing and respecting the worth and dignity of all students, staff, and families, recognizing their individual social, cultural, and economic differences
  • Knowledgeable of literacy and math foundational skills, progress monitoring, best practices, and strategies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with an understanding of the adverse effect on students, parents, and NCMS 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in the use of Google Drive and Canvas
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • a bachelor’s degree in education, Master’s Degree are preferred
  • a valid NC teaching license in Math or ELA/Reading/Literacy
  • at least five years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary,  middle, or high school level in ELA or Math is preferred
