General Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Job Description and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities of a teacher include, but are not limited to:
Curriculum and Instruction: A. Uses the Common Core State Standards and Essential Standards in developing curriculum guides. B. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities. C. Develops and implements plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required. D. Instructs students in citizenship and other character education programs. E. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. F. Uses a variety of instructional strategies. G. Works cooperatively with special education teachers, ESL teachers, and others to modify curricula as needed for identified students. H. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods. I. Uses technologies in the teaching/learning process. J. Assists students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study. K. Consistently assesses student achievement through formal and informal assessments. L. Uses a wide range of tasks (paper-pencil, group projects, problem-based activities, etc.) to address the different learning styles of students. M. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. N. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students. O. Uses acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. P. Calls and meets with parents/guardians to discuss the performance and progress of their child(ren). Q. Follows Individual Education Plans, Personalized Education Plans, etc. when appropriate. R. Set up a before or after school tutoring time to allow students to come in for extra help. S. Provides appropriate feedback on student work.
T. Develops and monitors Individual Education Plans based on the students needs.
Student Behavior and Student Safety: A. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. B. Consistently and appropriately supervises students in all areas of the campus. C. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. D. Review and practice any drill that may occur (fire, tornado, etc.). E. Refers students to the school counselor when appropriate.
Extra-Curricular Activities: A. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. B. May sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
Professional Development/School and District Meetings: A. Participates in the staff development program (is responsible for tracking renewal credits for licensure). B. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities. C. Is an active participant in school and district meetings. D. Serves on staff committees as required.
Managerial: A. Records attendance daily. B. Maintains an up-to-date record of student grades. C. Prints off progress reports when they are due. D. Develops Personalized Education Plans for eligible students. E. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants (where appropriate) and/or volunteers. F. Grades and returns assignments in a timely manner. G. Reviews the cumulative folder to determine the strengths, weaknesses, historical data, etc. of each student at the beginning of each semester/school year. H. Accurately receipts monies collected and turns in to the school finance officer the same day collected. I. Completes all reports in a timely manner.
Professionalism: A. Follows the dress standard set by the school.
B. Limits the number of absences accrued. C. Is representative of a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school. D. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents. E. Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. F. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. G. Keeps informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. H. Reflects daily about the instructional delivery, assignments, etc. of the day’s lesson.
