QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • CTE Construction License (74026) OR
  • Meet eligibility requirements to obtain a CTE Construction License, which includes the following:
    • Degree & Work Experience
      • Carpentry-related Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 years of related work experience within past 5 years OR
      • Carpentry-related Associate’s Degree with at least 4 years of related work experience within the past 8 years OR
      • High School Diploma with at least 6 years of related work experience within the past 10 years
    • Certifications
      • OSHA 10-hour Safety-Construction required prior to teaching
      • NCCER Instructor Certified Training Program (ICTP) 
    • Must be willing to complete the required coursework and induction to become licensed by the State of North Carolina

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach the NC CTE Essential Standards (state curriculum) for assigned CTE courses
  • Create lesson plans to include both in-class learning and hands-on training 
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ needs
  • Assign and grade class work and performance assessments
  • Provide instruction while establishing and maintaining student control required to safely teach standards and skills
  • Teach NCCER certification, which includes online assessments and performance assessments
  • Maintain NCCER records for each student for a minimum of five years
  • Communicates with parents through a variety of means
  • Establish and maintain facilities to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students
  • Practice and teach all safety procedures to ensure a safe and orderly work environment for students and staff at all times (Safety glasses must be worn by all students and staff at all times in lab during instruction)
  • Plan and coordinate activities for students to participate in live projects
  • Order supplies and coordinate deliveries, storage and use of purchased and donated supplies
  • Maintain classroom inventory records and attendance records
  • Attends staff meetings and staff development, including the CTE Summer Conference
  • Assist in advising the local chapter of SkillsUSA 
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules
  • All other duties as assigned by the School Administration and the CTE Director 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must physically be able to use a variety of construction tools and equipment, including table saws, radial arm saws, circular saw, masonry cutting saw, drill presses, jointers, hammers, saws, drills, planers, ladders, tape measures
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Must have ability to climb ladders, maneuver scaffolding, and work in tight spaces
  • Must be able to operate computers, copiers, calculators, and other equipment. 
  • Must be able to exert the amount of force and energy to physically lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects to demonstrate proper masonry and construction skills and techniques and to assist students who are practicing.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, manuals, and other correspondence.
  • Requires ability to compare and or judge workmanship and composite characteristics of data, people, and things
  • Requires ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions, to communicate effectively, and to facilitate online certification assessments and in-person performance assessments
  • Requires ability to see, talk, and hear
